Why PDR is the right repair for hail

Hail dents are shallow, round and leave the paint intact. That is exactly what paintless dent repair is made for. A body shop would fill and repaint whole panels, or replace the hood and roof skin, which costs more and leaves the car with non-factory paint. PDR removes each dent individually and keeps the original finish.

What we need from you

  • Photos of each hit panel taken at a low angle in daylight or under a parking garage light, so the dents show.
  • The make, model and year, so we know which panels are aluminum.
  • Whether you plan to claim it on insurance. We can prepare a written quote for the claim.

How hail repair works

  1. Count and map. Under the light board we count dents per panel and mark their size. The count sets the price.
  2. Access. Hood liner, trunk trim and, for the roof, the headliner are loosened to reach the back of each panel.
  3. Repair dent by dent. Each dent is pushed up from behind. Dents with no access are glue-pulled from the front.
  4. Reassemble and check. Everything goes back, and every panel is checked under the light board.

Cost and time

Hail is quoted per car from photos. Light hail on one hood may be done in a few hours; a fully hit car can take a day or two on site. See pricing for the factors.

Limits

Very large hail stones can crack paint or stretch metal, especially on the roof edge and on aluminum hoods. Those spots may need a body shop after PDR. We point them out on the photos before you book.

Hail damage questions

Does hail happen in Orange County?

Rarely. Most hail-damaged cars in Orange County were caught in a storm elsewhere, for example on a road trip, or were bought used with hail dents. The repair is the same wherever the hail fell.

How much does hail repair cost?

It depends on the number of dents per panel, their size and which panels are hit. We count the dents from your photos and quote the whole car. Heavy hail across the roof, hood and trunk costs more.

Is hail damage covered by insurance?

Hail is usually covered under comprehensive coverage, subject to your deductible. Ask us for a written quote to send to your insurer, and compare it with your deductible before deciding whether to claim.

How long does hail repair take?

From a few hours for a light hit on one or two panels to one or two days for a car with hail on every upper panel. We tell you the estimate with the price.

Can hail dents on the roof be fixed without removing the headliner?

Usually the headliner is dropped partly or fully to reach the roof skin, then reinstalled. Hoods and trunk lids are reached through their inner structure. Nothing is repainted.
