Can PDR fix my door ding?

Almost always. A door ding qualifies for paintless dent repair when:

  • the paint is intact: no cracks, no chips, no flaking;
  • the metal is not stretched (deep dings with a sharp center can be stretched);
  • the dent is on a steel or aluminum panel: door, fender, quarter panel, hood, trunk lid, roof.

Harder, but usually still possible: dings on a bodyline, on the very edge of a door, or behind an inner brace. We quote these from photos and tell you how clean the result will be.

Not PDR work: plastic bumpers, dents with cracked paint, and places where previous bodywork left filler under the paint.

How we repair a door ding

  1. Access. We reach the back of the dent through the window opening, a door seal or an existing access hole. Trim is removed only when needed and put back.
  2. Read the dent. A reflection light board shows exactly where the metal is low and where it is high.
  3. Push and tap. With steel rods we push the low spots up in dozens of small steps, then knock down any high spots with a tap-down tool.
  4. Check. The repair is done when the lines of the light board run straight across the panel.

Cost

From $80 for a small ding. Factors: diameter and depth, bodyline or flat area, how easy the back of the panel is to reach, and aluminum versus steel. See pricing for the full list. Every price is quoted from your photos before we come out.

Time

About an hour for one typical ding, often less. Several dings on one car are done in the same visit.

Door ding questions

How much does door ding repair cost in Orange County?

Door dings start at $80 with GoDent. The price goes up with the size and depth of the ding, its position on the panel and how hard it is to reach from behind. A recent example: a small, sharp ding on a Mazda RX-7 quarter panel, with no access from behind, was $120. Send a photo for an exact price.

How long does it take to fix one door ding?

Usually 30 minutes to an hour for a typical ding. Dings on a bodyline, near a panel edge or behind a brace take longer. You get the time estimate together with the price.

Will the paint be damaged?

No. PDR moves the metal from behind the panel; the paint is never sanded, filled or sprayed. Modern factory paint is flexible enough to follow the metal back into shape.

Can you fix a ding if the paint is chipped?

The dent itself can often be pushed out, but the chip stays. If the chip matters to you, a body shop touch-up is needed afterwards. We tell you this from the photo before you book.

Do you come to my home or workplace?

Yes. We work in driveways, office parking lots and HOA garages across all 34 Orange County cities. We need enough room to open the door fully and a spot that is not in direct, harsh sunlight if possible.

I have several dings. Is there a discount?

Send photos of all of them and we quote the whole job. One visit for several dents is usually the better deal, because travel and setup happen once.
